Nik McManus
I’m excited to be part of Brisbane Helicopters as a Director, bringing decades of experience across a wide range of aviation operations. I also serve as Director, Head of Operations, Head of Training and Checking, and Flight Examiner at Utility Helicopters. Originally from New Zealand, I’ve built my career across flight instruction, examining, fire bombing, and specialised lifting operations – gaining experience in all aspects of the industry and maintaining a strong focus on safety and professionalism.
While flying has always been a big part of my life, outside of the cockpit I enjoy slowing things down. I spend my time boating, caravanning, and exploring new places around the world, as well as making the most of time with my kids.
Jessica Johnston
I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love every day – flying, building Brisbane Helicopters, and bringing big ideas to life alongside an incredible team. My role keeps me busy overseeing all aspects of the business, as well as flight training through Utility Helicopters. I’m passionate about creating something special and delivering experiences people will remember for a lifetime.
Outside of work, I’m always chasing the next adventure. Whether it’s freediving, spearfishing, wakeboarding, skateboarding, hiking, camping or 4WDing, I’m happiest outdoors. I also love heading back to the Sunshine Coast, where I grew up, to spend time with family – and of course my border collie, Astronaut.
Aiden Cairns
I’m quite proud to have made it onto the Brisbane Helicopters team. Every team member has a strong passion for life and a can-do attitude – the team is an absolute blast to be a part of. My background in aviation operations allows me to add real value, and in return the role keeps me on my toes with exciting events, new opportunities, a diverse range of tasks, and of course, flying.
Outside of work, I enjoy rock climbing and bouldering, where routes are treated like puzzles that combine strength, technique, and problem-solving – something that keeps me coming back. I also enjoy playing chess (preferably in person, no timer), keeping up with cinema (a life long passion of mine), and getting out to local live music – there’s nothing better than discovering a great act in an intimate setting.
Sam Bridger
Hi, I’m Sam! Originally from Sydney, I moved to Brisbane in 2012 and now live in North Brisbane with my beautiful wife and two kids.
I first learned to fly in the Royal Australian Navy before completing my civilian Commercial Pilot Licence in 2023. These days, I fly helicopters part-time while working full-time in the RAAF as an Air Traffic Controller, combining my passion for aviation with a strong focus on safety and precision.
Outside of my love for flying, I’m loyal to the Penrith Panthers, enjoy 4WDing and camping, and love getting outdoors whenever I can.
